Live thy life as it were spoil and pluck the joys that fly. — Martial, 'Epigrams,' A.D. 86.

Photobucket
And shouldn't I have,
knowing that this might be the last,
danced my craft around the sky once more,
just to feel the stick clasp my hand back,
joined in the thrall.
Laughing with the wind, waltzing with the blue
knowing that never after should I feel so free
so sure in risk, so sure in my release.
Taming the sky with the pride of courage
my future just a glint on the horizon
I hurl myself up to meet my fate.

Girl, I have no idea how you take simple words and paint such pictures. If you ever decide to publish your prose and poetry, (or recipes) put me down for a signed copy.

Sweet. Not much better than flying upside down. My heart races just seeing your pic.

Now that looks like a ride to remember!

I began reading this in my blog feed, across the desktop here.
I didn't check the author first, just trusted that it was in my feed because I asked for it.
As I read.... I knew at once who had written it.... as it rang so beautifully that only one author was possible.

This is absolutely your best poem yet. Beautiful! It sings of you.

Thank you Jean. From you, that means a lot. For you are a true poet, not just someone that dabbles in it.

Congrats again on the Haiku win, it was well earned.

Spectacular.

Ultra-condensed, concentrated beauty.

And I'm sure that flight was quite the swan-song;)

Yes it's been fun. I don't teach aerobatics any more, I don't fly often enough with the cost, to be that good any more.

But those moments aloft, even if putting around overhead waving at the local cows, is incandescence.

The only thing missing is an ME-109 crossing right to left below you.

Or maybe a MiG-29 and a HUD with a radar lock-on and an in-range cue.
