Photo of the Day - and (run for your lives) a poem

Several of you have asked on and off line about the recent photos of home food, outdoors and hearth. My old larger camera which had great sentimental value but some miles on it, broke out in the field. It's replacement? Canon SD1200 IS, Tiny. Less than $150.00 and with 10 megapixels, it's perfect for tucking into a pocket. I don't have photoshop and I can still take decent pictures. Now if I could just find something to help me with my poetry. :-)

January Sun

The sun reappears
a lover so errant
A quick glimpse of light
its deceit not apparent
It kisses my skin
soft shimmering light
Warm promise, a whisper
before it is night
In a moment it's gone
cold taking its place
Winters caress
assuming its space
For I could not own it
it's warmth had no key
Captured by nothing
not even by me

Nice work, I'm no judge of poetry, limiting myself to reciting "The Cremation of Sam McGee", usually in the shower... The Best Photographs are another expression of individual thoughts and emotions. I used to sell cameras by what fit and worked for the individual. Your camera fits you well as the results show.

Glad you have a new camera. Look forward to seeing lots of pictures in the future. One day I'll figure out how to send you some of our outdoors.

My poetry knowledgs consists of the one at the end of Nights in White Satin, you know Breathe deep the gathering gloom, and so on. I like this one, good work.

You have a gift, Brigid.

btw... have you ever been astonished by the thing s your wrote. You know... you look back and re-read what you wrote and say:

"I wrote that! I can't believe that came from ... me."

Just curious.

If you need a Photoshop-like tool at the right price (read "free"), then give GIMP a try. Has all the power (AFAIK) with none of the cost.

Thanks for the post!

What works for the sun seems to work for those we love, too?

Ah, but you are like those rays of warmth you discuss. I think it would be so even if you were a wife. I don't think that's a bad thing, either.

Oh, and, Hi.

I've always liked a good haiku, short yet thoughtful:

Grey sky, stinging wind
Furry creatures lie dormant
Holy crap it's cold

Sure wish I could write one.

Interesting sentiment... and matches the picture perfectly! Thanks as always!

Lady B,
I believe you are being way too modest. Your photos and poetry are exceptional. I am no stranger to either one, having a poem published in a poetry book a few years back, and having won a photography prize at a county fair. I must say you are extremely talented, and you inspire almost all of your readers. Thank you!

The picture reminds me of many winter days spent outdoors at our place in Kentucky. A lover so errant; what a great way to describe the desperately needed sun on a day like that. Thank you!

I love it. I recited it aloud, which is how poetry comes alive. There have been more than a couple times when I'm in mid recitation of thd odd poem and I hear from the other room, "Who are you talking to, and why are you talking so weird?" ...Sigh........

For basic free photo manipulation, it's hard to beat Picnik, which I found via an Instapundit link. It's free, easy to use, and spyware free. You can adjust exposures, color, crop and other simple tasks with just a few clicks of the mouse. Best of all it's always available wherever you have a computer available.

Down load GIMP or GNU. It's free and almost as good as Photoshop. I've been fooling around ever since I was laid off (8 months and counting)

We've been having a dearth of sunshine in Virginia lately. Your poem fit our sunscarce mood perfectly. Made me shiver and smile.

Photos not bad, either. ;>|

I have a Canon A1000 and it rides in my purse everywhere with me. 10MP, powered by 2 AA batteries. A larger SD card is sort of mandatory (they all seem to ship with tiny POS cards). Very handy thing to have.

Brigid,

I've thought about your poem for a bit and it reminded me of a song I heard many years ago.

The 2 are similiar, though spoken/sung on different 'frequencies'. Enjoy:

It starts slow... so be patient. I am sure you will understand how they are so alike.
