We had an unusual number of severe storms come through the area this last month, usually at night. On one such night, I went to bed, noting when I did, that I'd left the stereo in the bedroom on, after listening to a Johnny Cash CD.About 2 in the morning, the power went out, then came back on immediately. I was alone in the house except for companions of the foru legged variety, when there was a small click sound, the drawer with the CD in it opening and closing, played on the cold air. The sound, unusual in my sleep, brought me up from deep slumber, but just barely.
As the ground shook and the sky boomed, the bedroom windows lit up with lightning. My eyes still closed, I was not yet aware of where I was, the sleep still lingering. Then a deep voice filled the room.
And I heard as it were
the noise of thunder
One of the four beasts saying come and see
and I saw
And behold a white horse
the noise of thunder
One of the four beasts saying come and see
and I saw
And behold a white horse
From my somnolent state all I could think was "It's GOD. . and He sounds just like Johnny Cash".
The song, the first on the album I had been listening to, is a favorite. As is the artist. I will toast the memory and talent of Mr. Cash. Admired for what he overcame and how devoted he was to his faith, his country and his woman. May we all have that in the dark hours of the night.

ROFLMAO! I just bet God COULD sing like Johnny!
You know, I could totally see God sounding like Johnny Cash. I could totally see us listening to Johnny Cash together over a couple of bottles of Guinness...and cake, there would have to be cake.
Well, I always assumed that God would have His voice-over done by Charlton Heston, but Mr. Cash would do, too.
Like your post..Johnny Cash is a legend..I just wonder how many of the new generation knows of him...Great song also...Thanks!
One might be surprised by the number of sounds and voices in which God speaks to us... if we only have the ears to hear.
Cool post!
That first time I can actually say I "heard" Jesus two years ago I was wide awake and he did NOT sound like Mr. Cash. He DID sound a little upset with me. We talked about it for a bit, I admitted I was wrong and I went to sleep on good terms with him.
I had a similar "God doesn't sound very happy" moment due to a heavy footed cat playing Loreena McKennitt's "Lullaby" from her CD "Elemental"

Years later I heard the afternoon guy at WRKO AM play it to end his show the afternoon of 9/11/2001.
LOVE it!! That is classic!
Many years ago, I was walking across a Cotswold field at dawn, on my way to a rabbit warren. Not a soul awake for miles.
'Good morning,' said a voice practically in my ear. I whirled around. Nothing but empty pasture, and rustling hedgerow far away.
'Lovely morning', said the voice.
Another full circle. Still nobody.
I shouldered the Remington, cocked it, the back of my neck tingling. Was it God? The other chap? Tense would be a good way to describe me.
I was almost ready to start gibbering, when there was a strange 'WHOOOOOSHHHH', and the voice said 'Up here.Don't shoot me.'
Sailing a few feet over my head was a balloon. The 'whoosh' was a flame, to give the balloon more lift, and the voice was a worried balloonist.
We chatted for a couple of minutes as he drifted slowly past. He promised to get 'up here' into his conversations with the earthbound in future, and I promised to keep 'passing balloonist' higher up my list of options than 'demonic attacker'.
I always assumed God would be like Peter Ustinov, but Mr.Cash would probably be better at the hymns.
Best wishes.
Hearing the voice of God has to be an awesome thing at 2 a.m.!
excuse me:
God winks - love them.
Sigh! I wish my N.O.A.A. Weather radio would wake me with Mr. Cash when the bad weather hits rather than that annoying computer-droid voice.
When I was in Olathe Kansas one day, the thunder and lightning and 22 tornadoes kinda showed me that I was not the biggest, baddest, sumbitch in town.
Me and Him came to an agreement that day.
I would live my life a little better, and He would help me clean up my act.
So far, it's working.
I haven't screwed up, and He hasen't slapped me down.
We are not on the same page all the time, but we are good with it.
When I was a kid growing up on the westside of Phoenix, I listened to alot of AM radio. Especially, KRDS, the country king. They played a ton of Johnny. Plus when he recommitted to the born again lifestyle and put out that June and Johnny sing about the holy land album, I suddenly had a whole new songbook to work through in my preparations for being the drafted church accompaniest. I did my best to liven things up but it was mostly a burning ring of fire.
Poetry! Pure poetry!
Guinness, thunder storms and Mr. J. Cash, heaven indeed.
John
That is just too funny, and too familiar...those times when we get woken in the middle of the night and our brains just cant sort out what is happening ;)
I would have figured Graham Chapman had the part sewed up, but I'm sure Johnny Cash is an acceptable substitute.

0200...the deep of the dark night, or time of aquaintance of the pale horse - How beautifully classic. Bless you and the memory of Johnny Cash.
Very nice post...and I love the choice of music!
Note to self....Remove CD's from stereo and turn it off before going to bed in a Thunderstorm.
Yeah, Mr Cash would be far more soothing than some of the stuff I listen to, LOL
I usually have to get REALLY quiet before I hear His voice. Probably more a commentary on me then on Him though. Loves me JC...both of em.
