Thought for the Day

When they took the Sixth Amendment, he didn't speak
because he obeyed the law.

When they took the Fourth Amendment, he didn't speak
because he had nothing to hide.

When they took the Second Amendment, he didn't speak
because he didn't own a firearm.

When they took the First amendment, he wanted to speak
but could not.

This reminds me of a poem attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) and written in WWII about the Nazis.

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Good morning,
Its bad when you think it. Its rough when you say it. But you know its really bad when others agree. As I see it the day will come and seems to be soon when one must draw a line in the sand then choose which side of it you will stand.Sad day in which we find ourselves in. mwp

And that's why I don't put one over the other...I believe each amendment is equally important! Though, the first is near and dear to my heart.

Well said, Miss B!

Brigid, we're emulating that turtle you posted about a couple of days ago---closing up and staying inside. Temp hit 100 here in Raymore today. Been high 90's since we got back.

Excellent. I thought when I read it that you were channelling Niemoller.

Thanks for the "birthday card" in the sidebar. The photos depict what would be a most excellent way to celebrate our birthdays.

Taps microphone. 'Is this thing on?' Coughs, shuffles feet. Opens mouth and shrieks 'hApPy biRt-' I can't do it. I TOLD you I can even type out of tune. A virtual present instead.
I won't type out the whole thing, there has been all that copyright blogging trouble lately.
Please Google 'Winter Solstice, Camelot Station', by John M. Ford. Even if you have it in your library, it is worth another read.
Happy Birthday, Miss Brigid, from one of the Upside Down People.

Best wishes.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lady B! Continue to celebrate life as you know how. That's the best Birthday present of all!
Cheers, too!

Brigid,

I must apologize for my poor reply to your post. It was early in the morning, I has just barely awake, and I was typing it on an iPhone almost in the dark. The post deserves better.

A friend once told me that not much is really that important. He was helping me struggle with raising my kids and I was wondering how to deal with a few issues. He told me to pick the handful of things that were really important....be clear about them to the kids, and stand your ground on those issues.

That is how I view the Constitution. It forms the foundation of who we are. Changing it is a serious business. We risk toppling everything that defines us. For that reason, we really do need to stand our ground on these foundation issues. On these issues, we can never give up.

Well said - A couple of relevant quotes

A Happy Belated Birthday to you Brigid!

I've missed not stopping by and reading your blog.

My loss I know, but I get sidetracked with life.

I spent a few hours reading up on what I've missed out on.

Some great stuff and delighted to be able to read what you've been up to.

Take care.
