Going the Distance

Whispered and dreamt about, laid out flat in front of you.

A thousand yards.

In that fleeting moment, you will hold your breath in the presence of power. You count that pulse between heartbeat and breath, compelled into an aesthetic deliberation you don't quite understand but fully desire, faced for the first time in your living history with something proportionate with your capacity for awe.

  1. Do it! Good luck! I always say that shooting is 80% mental, 20% physical. I may have it wrong for most, but for me that is how it works.

Back in the day I worked for a company that had as the advertising motto "reach out and touch someone".

    I like this definition better!

Let us know how you do!

  2. Made me all tingly - awesome postlet.

  3. ... and if you shoot like me, you might get within 8 MOA. :-(

    That picture is teh awesome.

  4. Brigid, well said... the challenge and success are literally a heartbeat apart... :-)

  5. Brigid,

A wonderful post...and a wonderful photograph! But, I am not certain this post is really about shooting. It is much more personal than that.

  6. Read this today and thought of you.

  7. Fantastic picture.

As well as the capture of the essence of the moment. (like I know anything about shooing 1000 yards - I don't think there's a range in my whole state that goes out that far)

  8. I love long range shooting. When hunting I like to get close and will not take a shot at an animal at long range but I love shooting at 800 and 1000 yards on paper. When the hunting season closes I frequently head in on the snowy barrens to shoot..

  9. The distance. So much encompassed in a simple phrase. I don't have a scope.

  10. @Shannon- Nor do I but I will still try to take the shot with what I have if I must!

I started this blog so the child I gave up for adoption could get to know me, and in turn, her children, as well as share stories for a family that lives too far away. So please keep it friendly and kid safe. Posts that are only a link or include an ad for an unknown business automatically to to SPAM..
