For the Women That Shoot and the Men Who Love Them

I remember the very first time I pulled a trigger, 12 years old, under my former LEO Mom's supervision, and after years of watching gun safety. I remember the target, a soda pop can. I remember the hesitant deliberation of the hand, the tightening of the muscles in my stance, knees slightly bent, leaning in, that seemed to convey twice the weight of what my childlike body held. And I squeezed and hit the top rim of the can, knocking it off its perch. It took ten minutes for the smile to leave my face.

The confidence never left me.

The first pistol I shot when I was 10 is here with me as well as the first rifle. Your song is perfect!

Seeing my little girl's face after that first shot... I still remember it. That's why I'm still instructing 4H shooting sports after all these years... I love seeing that look after the first shot!

Thanks again for reminding me.

Would a marriage proposal be inappropriate at a time like this?

And if I say I can't remember the first time a shot a gun would that disqualify me from consideration?

I was blazing with Daisy's long before I shot a for real gun. I don't know how many tin cans met their demise via that Daisy.

My first time to pull the trigger was on a double barreled 12 gauge,
I accidently pulled both triggers and being the skinny little runt I was at 10 years of age went flying backwards into my dad who was waiting behind me. It was a valuable lesson in the power of weapons and that they needed to be used with respect.

I didnt stop grinning for a week :)

As for Firefly, any woman who likes Firefly is a woman I want to call friend ;)

Under the tree, at Christmas, waaaay back when I was 8 years old, there was a bolt action, single shot .22, with my name on it. We went to the dump, that day and started shooting pop and beer cans.

Under the tutelage and firm hand of my hero, my father, I learned firearms safety, shooting positions, proper breath control, and squeezing the trigger, care and cleaning of firearms, and a love for shooting and outdoor sports that are with me to this day.

As always. thanks for bringing a smile to my face, while I remember great times.

I think that is a no, and my heart broke a little bit to hear it. Oh well where'd my ham samitch go.

Awesome blog and do you carry liability insures in case I bust a gut? Just saying I might need it as I go through the back posts.

Tell Joshkie there is a queue. I need some help, on a recent pheasant shoot one of the birds I fired at folded up its wings and fell out of the sky. I have never had this happen is it normal? On checking I found the bird was quite dead.

Joshkie, the line starts on the right. ;)

Amen Brigid. That's why we win!

Most guys my age are taken, the rest too burned to go there again. I like my life and have no complaints.

I have the opposite problem. Most women my age are annoying. The good, older ones who aren't tend to be taken. I'll figure it out one of these days.

Check your wheel guns at the door.

See my problem is I'm set in my ways. I've just not found the one that would put up with me or that I wanted to put up with. Oh well such is life.
To Ghostrifle and larry; I'm pretty sure Brigid is woman enough to determine who should be at the head of the line.

Tried out a G23 .40 today - loved it! I'm still smiling and have a feeling santa is going to be good to me this year.

My first was in cadets when I was 14. They let us have old Canadian FNC1-A1's, nice old WWII era rifles with really big bullets. We learned all about safety and cleaning and loading magazines, then they marched us out to the range and gave us all a man-shaped target.

It was a revelation.

Then I discovered I was a crack with a shotgun. 13 clay pigeons in a row. 13!

Ghostrifle, to have a pheasant fold on you is not unusual. Make sure they are quite dead before you load them into the car though.
My brother and I shot ten, but only pulled nine out of the car. When he stuck his hand underneath the seat, the tenth one found him...by biting the web between thumb and first finger.
It looked very painful.
