One of my favorite comics in the world Abstruse Goose
Or maybe not. . .
Brain: Now, Pinky, if by any chance you are captured during this mission, remember you are Gunther Heindriksen from Appenzell. You moved to Grindelwald to drive the cog train to Murren. Can you repeat that?
Pinky: Mmmm, no, Brain, don't think I can.
I'm not getting anywhere fast today. Nor can I can remember much of anything today, at least anything requiring cognitive thought or a detailed recipe.
I'd been fighting a sore throat and sniffles since I got back from my long trip. A day in the field (oh, great it's snowing on us) clinched it, and by the time I got the truck unloaded and out of my gear after being awake about 20 hours I was shaking with a fever. A quick decontamination, a mug of tea, a chat with my friend, two aspirin and 14 and a half hours of sleep later I felt like I might live. Especially after making something my Mom used to make for me when I was feeling a little peckish. Grilled peanut butter and honey sandwiches. PB and wild honey smeared on whole grain bread, the outside of the bread brushed with softened real butter and grilled until the outside is buttery, crispy and the honey starts to caramelize. I'll never get too old for this.

It's just a bad cold, I get one every spring and fall. I'm feeling better than yesterday and will just hang out and stay warm, albeit occassionally barking like a harp seal.
So today, warm blanket, a tasty sandwich, and Pinky and the Brain
It's a good thing I've got the video player for there's not a whole lot else on TV during a work day unless "you or someone you love are dead and wish to call this number" to get a litigation attorney. (If you're dead, how do you . . . oh never mind).
Or you wish to watch what's on regular TV.

Pinky & the Brain remains one of my favorites, very close to the old Warner Bros. standards.
Get well soon, B.
"What are we going to do tonight Brigid?" "Same thing we do every night Pinky, try to take over the world." Take care there's bad one going around up here in the NE corner of Indiana. I just might try that sandwich with a little banana added.
Steaming MUG of hot tea with honey is the only answer.
Pinky and the Brain? Oh, I mentioned that in a college library once, and one co-worker knew what I was talking about, the other one didn't have a clue, or hadn't been monitoring her children's television experience.
And what are you going to do today, Brain? Get that Hot tea and honey, you should know better than to go into the rain without your golashes...
wv whessil - a weasle with pretense.
Well sometime in your delirium you said some very interesting things to me. Interesting things I'll remember forever.
OK, not interesting. I was hoping for interesting. What I got was that you were hungry. Now you've made me hungry.
I'm grilling. Shrimp, steak, and other delights.
Take care of yourself. I prescribe an episode of Firefly. Anything with a lot of Jayne.
Are you pondering what I'm pondering?
You can't go wrong with Pinky and the Brain.
Hope you get to feeling better really soon.
I'm still stuck on Beany and Cecil.
Hope you get better soon... Wild Turkey and honey will 'fix' that cough too :-)
Sorry to hear your under the weather. Hope you feel better soon.
You have to love a cartoon that provides an object lesson in the necessity of good cockpit communications.

"This is the Earth. And this is Pinky. You can tell the difference quite easily. One is a lump of inert matter hurtling blindly through the void. The other... is the Earth."
Transformers! Ha! Just had all of the ones at work Ir scanned. One from the City was toast.
I do love Pinky and the Brain, but I must also confess a love for Ren and Stimpy. The "history eraser" button and the "Log" commercial I still remember. Of course now if I need the history eraser I choose DonJulio Blanco!
How do you still brighten the blogospher while sic? When I feel under the weather people avoid me do to me being a grump, and the filter to my mouth gets clogged and stops working.
Hope you feel better soon,
Josh
Ps. I'm a straight peanut-butter & honey-butter. No grill'n needed.
:-)
Hope you keep getting better. :-)
Transformers? Looks more like transistors. Or trans-sisters. Trannie sisters? OK... Stopping now.
Did you know that, at the Patch Factory, all of our computers have network names of WB cartoon characters. Daffy, Pinky, Brain, Dot, Tweety. And the server is Acme.

OK - someone has to try the grilled peanut butter and honey. I already got J. to join the dark side, who's next?
+1 for Pinky and the Brain :D
Did the Brain really refer to the cog from Grindelwald to Murren? Been there, done that. Think "Eiger Sanction."
Brigid: When I make grilled cheese sandwiches, I grill the side of the bread that will be the inside, first. Then the cheese goes on this warm grilled surface during assembly. Then I grill the outside.
I can't tell from your picture if you follow this method, or not.
I think it makes the sandwich a lot better.

I'm next:
Breakfast for Brigid
Fantastically delicious!
I am making the honey-wheat bread as I type this, to try the grilled peanut butter and honey sandwich in two hours, when the bread is ready.
Because my only other choice is the soda bread, or the cinnamon-raisin bread. Hey... maybe I should try that instead...
Peanut Butter and Pickle (Dill) is really good, too. :)
Rest well, Brigid.
Trying to get my head around the procedure--how does the hunny (have to spell it like Pooh, sorry) start to caramelize?
It looks like the hunny is on the PB, the PB and hunny is encased in the bread, which is buttered and wondrous and crispy and awesome and crunchy and brown and.............
Something so simple, so wonderful, so many questions............
Oh, yeah--hope you feel better soon, too:-)
MaineMapleDave: The honey will do that along the edge of the sandwich where it's in more direct contact with the heat of the pan. You'll see it start to get kind of crunchy, that's usually when the sandwich is just about done.
Thanks, I feel much better today, but still sniffly and taking it easy and staying home to rest.
On a Wing - OK, I'm thinking that had to be even better. What say you. Good, bad, I can't talk now, I'm in the ICU?
Reviews on the first round using honey-wheat bread were briefly put on hold after the housemate yelped "It drips liquid fire!"
His young son twisted around on the couch from where they were watching "The Hallelujah Trail" and said "Ooh! Really? Let me see!"
Calmer Half received his portion (and warnings about the thermal inertia of honey and peanut butter) with enthusiasm and praise.
It's definitely going into the comfort food rotation :-) And at some point, after I've sucked down the glass of tea to offset the peanut-butter-dry mouth, I'll have to try again on the cinnamon-raisin. Maybe breakfast tomorrow?
For now, more Burt Lancaster, Jim Hutton, and madcap comedy. Thank you for the recipe, and I hope you feel better!
Oh a Wing - you know I bet my Mom, Grace, is looking down from heaven right now with a big smile on her face. She used to love to make us those sandwiches. Glad you all enjoyed.
I really need to stop reading your blog from current to previous. I made the puffed apple pancake this morning and everybody absolutely loved it. Tomorrow ~ grilled PB&H will totally be on the menu!
I’ve tried all sorts of coughing syrups, believe me, but none of them helps. Even though Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa http://www.geocities.jp/ninjiom_hong_kong/index_e.htm does not eliminates the cough I like to stick to this chinese syrup I’ve been taking since I was a kid: Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa. My grandfather is chinese, so I guess my mom got the advice from him. I was really surprised when I found that chinese market selling it here in Belgium. It does have a refreshing, soothing, sweetening effect…as long as it lasts…then back to coughing mode.
