Weekend Chow Call - Cowboy Spaghetti

Sometimes it's nice to have a cowboy in the crowd.

But they are usually hungry, especially after a few hours at the conservation club.

When the sun began to go down I began to think about dinner.

It was the last time I met my friends at the conservation club. I wanted to make something that there would be plenty of for leftovers, and enough to share for a friend or two invited for supper. Spaghetti came to mind, but I wanted something a little different and something I could make from what was on hand.

click to enlarge the photos, you know this by now :-)

Cowboy Spaghetti

I didn't have onions, so I'd need something else to add some flavor. There was one bottle of jarred sauce, that wouldn't go far. Let's get into the staples. Here we go. Three kinds of pepper, applewood smoked salt, green chilies, olives, roasted garlic, sausage and ground sirloin, diced tomatoes, a splash of Merlot, wild honey, and some savory seasoning, simmered for a couple of hours while rustlers and outlaws were taken care of (OK, the UPS guy, and a telemarketer), then three cheeses added, including smoked cheddar.

Go ahead and try it, or as Hedley Lamarr said in Blazing Saddles: Go do that voodoo that you do so well!

Then saddle up for for the long ride home to the big city.

I have a hard time seeing the local cowboy grubbing out on Italian delights...... throw a slab of bovine in it and ya might get his attention.

It does sound good though. Sourdough n garlic..... ?

Mmmmmm.....

I know this my response to these food posts, but I seem to loose the ability to think or form coherant thoughts.

The third brain takes over.

I hope you made romm by 'woosening your buwets'. Some snitzengruben
sausage would add flavor, too.

That adds a lot of meaning to "Spaghetti Western!" I've had similar spaghetti a time or two since moving West and it has always been very good.

Is "any" wheel gun considered a cowboy gun or is there another criteria?

"Ah, but John, the cowboys on my team are mostly ex special forces, solders, rangers, they like a heaping plate of about anything I'll cook for the group."

Honestly, I think you could cook them c-rations, and they'd gobble it up like it was cordon bleu. Not dissing your cooking in any way, but you do know that half the enjoyment of a meal is the presenter, um, er, PRESENTATION, yeah, that's what I meant. ;)

Durn, this looks mighty tasty Sis...sorry I missed your call yesterday, I was taking care of rustlers and outlaws (okay - Jacob, Levi and Isaac). Much love to you dear, hope that you and I might be able to indulge in a plate of Cowboy Spaghetti at the same table one day...I'll bring the onions.

Looks good. I like to improvise and throw things together as well, and a bit of bacon is always a good additive.

Then saddle up for for the long ride home to the big city.

That would be quite a commute; from the picture, it looks to include passing through parts of the UK, or maybe Ireland.

let's see if I can get it right this time!

Brigid, if you can partake of fine spirits yet (or not!), this web site has lots of information about Irish whiskey.

Think it is time to pour a little Jamesons neat! Maybe even a second one!
