Two qualities are indispensable: first, an intellect that, even in the darkest hour, retains some glimmerings of the inner light which leads to truth; and second, the courage to follow this faint light wherever it may lead.
Karl Von Clausewitz
I think that quote sums up best for whom I would vote.
I've had people ask "Are you a Tea Party Member? I say "No". They say "Oh, then are you Republican?" I say "No". Libertarian? "No". . . (gasp) "Democrat?" "No" (actually, hell no).
I am simply a conservative American, the granddaughter of legal immigrants, a woman, a mother, someone who has given up 10 years of her life in service to her flag, her president and her country (even if I didn't always agree with them). I was raised by a member of the Military. I am loved by a member of the Military. I believe that the first quality of a patriot is, and always will be courage.
I am not one party any more than I am one stereotype. I am the face of one American. How I think may not be the way you think or others think, but then again, when I step in that voting booth it is only my hand pulling the lever. And I will pull it, believing in these things.
If I don't like guns, I do not own one.
I don't demand you hand yours over.
------
However, I believe that the lawful, proficient possession of a firearm makes me smart.
I don't think it makes me a potential killer of the innocent.
------
If I want the things my neighbor has, I work harder.
I don't demand they "share the wealth".
------
If I make a mistake, I try and own up to it.
I don't blame it on some conspiracy.
------
If I don't like what someone, brave enough to speak with their name behind it, says, I don't listen.
I don't demand their silence.
------
I do not believe that my color or gender makes me better than you, any more than being a minority makes someone noble or victimized.
I don't believe any group should have special advantages to make up for wrongs of past generations.
------
I believe that if you can't read a ballot in the English language, you shouldn't get to decide who will be running the most powerful nation on earth for the next four years.
I don't think illegal immigrants should ever have a vote.
------
I believe it takes two loving people to raise a child.
I don't believe it takes a village.
I believe in Peace Thru Superior Firepower
I don't believe we can all get along.
------
I believe that government is here to provide the freedom to pursue my goals.
I don't believe that government is here to make sure no one is in need.
------
I believe I should be empowered to work out my own problems.
I don't believe someone else should solve my problems for me.
------
I believe if you want to dine on tofu that's perfectly all right.
I'll be having the steak though.
------
I believe the right to pursue happiness means the right to fail.
I don't believe bailouts of the greedy and the inept are a solution.
I think that jobs, college quotas and promotions should be based on ability, work ethic and merit.
I think discrimination against a while male is as abhorrent as discrimination against a black female.
The ONLY bonus points in hiring should be for veterans. Period.
------
I wish to live in a country founded on the principles of our founders, God, Trust, Freedom.
I don't wish us to be more like Europe, just with bigger parking lots.
------
I don't believe health care is a human right.
Man's primary right, the right to his own life, establish all others, including the rights to select and pursue his or her own values, and to dispose of these values, once gained, without duress. That includes power over who I see for any medical care and who decides what care I can get.
------
I think you can politely disagree with me and that is Freedom of Speech.
I don't think because someone disagrees with me they are automatically an idiot. That always remains to be seen.

I would vote for you.
Brigid that is a great post!!
Can't say much more than that
Thanks!!
Well said, indeed. Thank you for saying it.
I hope you are having a good trip.
I agree absolutely. You hit dead center all shots touching.
Stupendously good!
But then your writing almost always is.....;-)
Not bad for a redhead. :)
I shared this on my facebook, is that cool?
That is a lot of target stands.
Opening a new range?
Brigid for President!
Amen to all of the above.
Amen.
I jumped off the bandwagon years ago and headed down my own trail in pursuit of MY own happiness. I may be lost, but I have never been happier and more free.
In regards to #6 I think it was summed up in an interview with Morgan Freeman by CBSs Mike Wallace
Wallace: "How are we going to get rid of racism"
Freeman: "Stop talking about it!"
As long as folks make race, gender, etc and issue, it's always going to be an- issue.
I Believe.....
If they be your principals why do they change them when you attain office?
Somehow the people need to get people in there that will stand by their beliefs, not be fickle, chicken in every pot if you vote for me.
Already some of the young roosters are posturing for re-election.
As for President,I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that. Woman- Redhead- Celtic roots?
A leader with those fine qualities could very likely declare war on some unsuspecting country every 28 days or so,
Hey, I just sayin' ;)
Brigid,
Brief and to the point. NICE!

Amen, Brigid, amen. You said it better than I ever could.
On the off chance that you ever run for President, you've got my vote.

And that, my dear lady, is why I am honored that you are my friend and why you are one of the select few who ever sees the inside of our home and shares our hospitality.
Well said!! Succinct and to the point.
Mr. B. - the honor is mine.
Just so.
Well said
Brigid -
Well said - I agree on all counts. I sincerely hope to have the honor of meeting you some day.
GOD I like the way you think Brigid, just think how the world thought like normal, intelligent people like you.
I would vote for you.
You summed up perfectly with your words what I feel with every fiber of my being.
Brigid,
If you are in the same location (Xi'an) as your previous post, it is probably not the best place to discuss principles of freedom over the internet.
Safe journeys.
Brava :-)

Impressively said. Loved it!
Very well said, wish more people would read this.
Count on my vote!
Well said!
Thank you! It's great to read a political credo that I completely agree with, and to know that there are many people sharing the same views.
:-)
Josh
I believe...
that every word was dead on, straight from the heart, bulls-eye, and we need a whole lot more people like you running this country!
Show me a woman who's closer to perfect than you... go on, show me!
:^)
Great post! Its too bad more people don't have the same opinion.
Well put!
wv: asests. You keep yours, I'll keep mine.
Thank you for putting into such graceful words the thoughts and feelings that so many of us share.
Well Brigid, I would say you completely summed up the belief's of my wife and I. I think our founding fathers might not call it republican or democrat, but American!
I have a bumper sticker on my office wall that says "Contrary to popular opinion, nobody owes you anything!"
Dann in Ohio
PS: I think Barkley might add a few thoughts on tofu...
But..but..but..Brigid, you just don't understand - we are just too stoopid to pursue our own happiness...
...oh nevermind.
Thank you for so gracefully putting into words the thoughts and feelings that many of us share.
Amen, Sister!
HERE HERE well said.
I could not agree with you more. You absolutely hit the nail on the head. This blog post I will be quoting (giving you full credit, of course) Way to go!
This is absolutely awesome. Just brilliant.
Yes, just so.
And the people said...
Amen.
BRAVO! Well said.
Excellent!
I agree whole heartedly with all said.
If only our elected representatives had this same mind-set and, importantly, the cajones to conduct their business accordingly.
Brigid...OUTSTANDING...as usual!
Stephen...Thank you!!
I'll keep my eye on the ballots for your name! You'd be the only candidate that I agree with on all of those points!
:-) !!!!!!
I 100% Agree!
Great Post! Thanks
'bout 85% to a shy 90% in agreement.
The difference is what we all profess to love about our country.
You are definitely on my list of people I would like to have lunch with. Great post.
Sounds good to me. Glad to hear you're not mixed up in the earthquake/tsunami
Brigid,
Just like so...
Needs to be tattooed onto the foreheads of the congress critters.
Very well done /hat tip/
Thank you!
+ 100 Brigid, well said!
I've noticed something on your side bar and I don't know how to bring it up so I'll respond to this my favorite post (Static electricity is a close second). I know you're a stickler for proper citation and I've noticed that Frank Herbert is not cited in the Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear that you have below the pic of a stainless (nickel?) Ruger. I'm not a nitpicker and never correct anyone's grammar or spelling but unless I read you wrong this is something that is one of those important rules in the "swept wing cowgirl's" code. Or maybe Frank didn't really write it and I'm an ass in which case forget it.
Island Bob - Thanks. That quote with proper citation was up on my sidebar for two years under a picture of a Swiss Panther Arms .308. I decided to change photos and cut and pasted the quote, but guess I cut off the last of it and just never noticed. But it was accredited properly for so long no one ever noticed.
Nice thoughts need to be engraved in stone.
