I'd hoped to have a unremarkable trip and it just didn't end up that way.
There are always bumps in the road. Some are just harder than others.
But I'm in Texas and I'm OK. For now, though the armadillo population remains statis, the bovine population will be reduced by one, or at least the tasty portions thereof.

They make such a nasty sound as they crunch by under your vehicle as well.
Well, WELCOME to Texas. We kind of like it down here. You picked a heck of a dry, hot time to visit. Just make sure to hit the shooting ranges early (or do it indoors).
Welcome Dear...
"armidillo population remains statis, the bovine population will be reduced by one"
I read that and thought OMG she hit a steer? then read the rest. Don't scare me like that. :-)
Enjoy the rest of your trip and stay safe.
I live about 30 some miles west of there, near the town where the west begins - always get a bit disoriented downtown in the city where the east peters out.
Had to pull up the Bing map birdseye view, but if I'm guessing correctly, that view is from the Adam's Mark or Plaza of the Americas looking SW.
Hope you enjoy your stay in the Lone Star State.
Ah, Dallas, my home town. Hope the heat isn't too bad on ya!
Why did the chicken cross the road?
To show the Armadillo it COULD be done.
Armadillos = armour plated 'possums
Brigid,
Dave & I are grilling either large slabs of steer, or piggie, on Saturday. If you'd care to partake, you would be most welcome to attend. We're about 30mi north of there...
Brigid, you come to my home town and don't offer your loyal, local followers the opportunity to worship at your feet...I mean meet you? I'm hurt.
If you're still here, you must try Chuy's. From where you took the picture, go north on 75/Central Expressway. Exit Knox/Henderson (about five minutes or less from downtown - depending on traffic). Turn Left. It's on the southeast corner of Knox and McKinney. Parking is a PITA, but the food is worth it. Ask for the creamy jalapeno with your chips and salsa.
Ah Armadillos,
As kinfolk down in Georgia call 'em
Possums on the half shell.....
Armadillo. Opossum on the half shell.
heh. Armadillos must breed like rabbits, because for all the speedbumps I see, there's never any lack of live ones running around looking for a stretch of highway in need of a bump.
BTW, welcome to Texass, I'm about 30 minutes west-ish of you, almost into Fort Worth(less). **waves**
Sheperd K - I'd like to have a sit down with you and the Queen sometime, but this just isn't a good week, in a lot of ways. Thanks for the invite though.
I thought there was gonna be some road kill recipes for our perusal... :P
I am told they taste like pork.
Welcome to God's country. Enjoy and welcome.
Armadillos are nature's way of taking the pressure of moles and gophers in the yard. We tell the season by whether road kill is raccoon, 'dillo, or skunk.
If you don't know the secret handshake simply display your LaRue tactical beverage recovery device, aka Dillo.
Looks like we really need to have a good TX shooting meet-up.
Guaranteed to be a generous plenty of bovine slaughter...
Have some fun, but get back home to our Hoosier (weather and all that) Heartland safely and in good spirits (Woodford Reserve works).
Brigid,
Sorry your trip is not going well. As you stated there are bumps in the road. All we can do is stay buckled in and keep those hands on the wheel.Stay safe and take care. Hope you are fine. I know all about those speed bumps
Dan
Just remember they're natures "mobile" speed-bumps, and they're not always where you expect them.
Welcome and if your not careful you will never want to leave.
:-)
Josh
Just as long as you remember what AMY W. said. Love is a loosing game.
The faster you go the less you notice the bumps
