Light and Dark, Good and Evil - Cupcake Wars

There is an endless battle between light and dark, goodness and evil, those that prefer vanilla or chocolate.

I couldn't make up my mind, but wanted Partner in Grime to have a sweet treat with leftovers for when I leave to go back on duty  (as well as for me to take to work tomorrow) so he gets both.

And if there's any doubt, you can never have too much ammo or too much frosting. (Especially with a huge piping bag and the Wilton Extra Large  Round Decorating Tip)
Light:

Vanilla  cupcake with maple-vanilla buttercream and candied bacon.
Dark:

Darkest Chocolate with vanilla buttercream and salted caramel.

Let me know your favorite and I'll post a recipe this Wednesday  for the one most people would prefer.

  1. Cupcakes are a good side dish for bacon, but bacon really doesn't need a side dish.

  2. One vanilla, 2 chocolate with extra frosting. Hold the bacon I am on a diet.

  4. Pig Candy (for the cupcakes I left out the chili powder and pecans, but this is really good).

1 pound sliced applewood smoked bacon
    3 heaping tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons Penzey's Chili 9000 chili powder (or your favorite chili powder but add a pinch of ancho chili powder to it for some smokiness)
    1/4 cup finely chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 425. Line two 13 x 9 metal pans or a large jelly roll pan with foil. Arrange the bacon in a single layer on the foil. Bake for 10 minutes; drain.

Combine the brown sugar and chili powder; sprinkle over bacon. Sprinkle with pecans. Bake 5-10 minutes longer or until bacon is crisp. Drain on paper towels. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

  11. That's so unfair, having to pick one answer. Dark wins, with forgiveness prayers to the Bacon Gods.

I think any flavor of icing is ok as long as it's buttercream. Buttercream is the next best thing to bacon, period. Actually, forget frosting anything with it and just hand me the bowl and spoon and I'm good.....
