Quote of the Week

“Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century:
Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others;
Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected;
Insisting that a thing is impossible

 because we cannot accomplish it;
Refusing to set aside trivial preferences;
Neglecting development and refinement of the mind;
Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do.”

― Cicero

  1. And those are sadly true... Those who don't read history ARE doomed to repeat it again and again...

  2. What about "Never get involved in a land war in Asia"?

    (Which is, of course, slightly more famous than "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line".)

  3. And each one of those have their own uniquely devastating effects.

  4. Truer words have never been spoken!

  5. Who IS this cat, anyway? Sounds like a modern, with-it guy!

  6. That last line ought to be at the top. Of course, Cicero didn't ask (or need) our opinion. :)

  7. True then, true now, true tomorrow. For some reason, the Temptations' "Ball of Confusion" has been bouncing around my head lately.

  8. All this wisdom is applicable to today, yet those in power are too arrogant to do so. It seems their plan is "something new under the sun ".

  9. Deeply, profoundly, true.

    A friend once remarked it must be a bitch to be a mathematician when you know every proof you struggle with was done by Carl Friedrich Gauss while he was still in a crib. It must be worse to be a philosopher when every single truth of the human condition was known 2000 years ago.

  10. So very true and said so long ago. One would think that people would get it by now. Then again, there are those that have differing opinions and feel comfortable eroding the freedoms that we have.

I started this blog so the child I gave up for adoption could get to know me, and in turn, her children, as well as share stories for a family that lives too far away. So please keep it friendly and kid safe. Posts that are only a link or include an ad for an unknown business automatically to to SPAM..
