It is only a simple gravestone, saying so little, yet bearing so much. Captain LeFon, it was an honor to know you.

And shouldn't I have,
knowing that this might be the last,
raced my craft around the sky once more,
just to feel the stick clasp my hand back,
joined in the thrall,
dancing with the wind
waltzing with the blue
knowing that never after should I feel so free,
so sure in risk, so sure in this, my calling
taming this sky with the pride of experience.
my future just a glint in the horizons
I hurl myself up to meet my fate---

Well said Brigid. Thank you and God bless.
ReplyDeleteWell done, and well said. He was one of the good ones!
ReplyDeleteHad the pleasure of doing just that with Lex. You put it better than I could, and I claim to be a writer. But when it comes to Lex words always fail.
ReplyDeleteThat was beautiful Brigid. About twenty or so of us "Lexicans" gathered in San Diego over the weekend to celebrate his life and build new friendships, and strengthen old ones. It was a fitting testament to Lex. Like yourself, his writing drew in a diverse group of folks who in my estimation are a cut above average. Thank you for posting this.
ReplyDeleteA fine man and an superb writer.
ReplyDeleteWell done. He is greatly missed, and held close to the hearts and minds of many.
ReplyDeleteAmen, he was a truly nice guy too!
ReplyDeleteLex's site is where I found out about this fine establishment. I wish it was still up.
ReplyDeleteA loss to a strong voice for Naval Air.
