Meet My New Lab Partner

Her collar is more "dog" and less "goth", but she is going to be a great Lab partner. 

You say when it's time to get another dog, after losing a beloved one, the right one will find you.  I've been looking at rescue dogs for a few weeks after getting through the interview, house check for safety and suitability and references (I appreciate how Love of Labs Indiana made sure their dogs go to the best homes) but just hadn't felt prompted to meet one yet.

But as I was checking for new dogs on their site on a commercial break from my favorite show, NCIS, I saw the name of a dog recently placed into foster care.  She had been left at a high kill shelter and was heartworm positive, just finished with her treatments, and on seeing the name, I just knew.

Folks, meet Abby.

She's a Lab "mix", with no papers. The super soft fur is just a tiny bit longer and softer than labs in my family in the past, but when she stands you can see pure retriever in her. But she's only 60 pounds at about 5 years old  so she might have a smaller retriever/spaniel in there, though the face is pure, sweet lab.  She's gentle as can be, knows "sit", takes a treat gently from my hand, and walks on a leash pretty well (though I'll sign her up for some basic training here this next week to improve on her "weaver stance" while on leash.)

Plus she could detect and locate a tiny food crumb left on the kitchen floor, in finest NCIS lab style.
